Preparations for the roof project at Attingham have begun! Throughout the duration of the two year project, the Picture Gallery will contain scaffolding. As a result, the carpet has been removed to prevent any damage due to the weight from the scaffold.
You may wonder how a carpet weighing approximately 750 kilograms is removed from the heart of our mansion – not easily! We prepared the Picture Gallery by protecting the table legs and removing the furniture and the ceramics. The carpet consultants who laid the carpet in 2008, Linney Cooper, came to remove it. They will store it for the duration of the project and deep clean it before it returns in 2015.

Now the carpet has been removed other preparations can start for the project. On Thursday 8th November floorboards were taken up to check the structure beneath to work out where best to position the scaffold.

Keep an eye on the blog for more updates on the roofing project and come to see the Picture Gallery decorated for a 1920s Christmas on 8th, 9th and 15th-23rd December. This will be your last chance to see the room with all the paintings fully hung on the walls for two years. Please see our website for Christmas opening details.
